Welcome to The Cure for Normal.
The Cure for Normal blog & YouTube channel is all about inspiring you to look at the world differently. If you’re openminded and looking for alternative ways of thinking that could have a significant impact on your life, you’ve come to the right place.
In life, I see a lot of people doing things a certain way simply because other people do it that way. I see people doing the ‘done thing’ and trying their best to fit in. And I wonder… why is everyone being so normal?
The most beautiful thing in life is that each individual you meet is completely different to the next person, possessing an original combination of quirks and qualities that makes them uniquely awesome. So why do people choose to act so similar, instead of living the creative and authentic life that is perfect for them?
I believe it’s because there simply isn’t a culture of exploring the space outside our comfort zone. We don’t like doing it. We don’t like it when other people do it. We’d much rather just have a cup of tea and snuggle up in an oh-so-familiar place we already know. But as Maya Angelou once said…
I believe it’s time for us all to strap on the biggest headtorch we can find, and go on the ultimate adventure of finding and expressing our brilliant individuality.
It’s not going to be easy. It’s certainly not going to be comfortable. But it is going to be incredibly interesting. Be weird, stay weird, and discover what life is all about.
My life purpose is to help people be less normal and instead embrace their uniqueness, which I believe is how we can all have the most authentic, fulfilling lives and contribute to the world in the greatest way possible.
The point of The Cure for Normal blog & YouTube channel is NOT for you to ‘see things my way’. I’m simply presenting you with alternative ways of looking at the world, that hopefully challenge your current beliefs.
The ultimate goal is to help you realise you have many more options in life than you think, so you can make creative, unusual decisions that are perfect for you (rather than following the crowd).
As a warning, you may find some of the viewpoints controversial. I might
accidentally on purpose push your buttons, leaving you feeling a bit irritated or even angry. I’m secretly hoping for this, as it means you’ve been taken outside your comfort zone to a place where you can grow. So if you feel a little annoyed at any point… you’re welcome! ;O)
My recent personal transformation
I’m going to be completely honest with you. For the last 10 years, I’ve struggled internally. Although I’ve had ‘success’ on the outside, things were not going well on the inside. I was constantly miserable and tried everything to fix it.
Acupuncture, massage, rolfing, inversion therapy, rebirthing, osteopathy, reiki, reflexology, crystal healing, pilates, energy healing, CBT, panchakarma, ayahuasca, vedic, vipassana and transcendental meditation, various styles of yoga, and even counselling from a Buddhist monk!
BUT… nothing worked.
Then I finally figured it out, and it was surprisingly simple. Over a relatively short space of time, I learned some vital life lessons, and now I feel like a completely new person.
The issue was that I wasn’t expressing the true me. I wasn’t being honest with myself or other people, and wasn’t celebrating my uniqueness. And this ended up being the root cause of all my internal problems. Once I realised this and had the courage to stand up for who I really was, my whole life changed. This happened pretty quickly too!
What topics does The Cure for Normal cover?
The topics vary greatly, because it’s possible to find creative and unusual ways of looking at all areas of life. I’ll include subjects of personal development, spirituality and invaluable life lessons – everything from practical tips to deep life concepts. I’m especially excited to talk taboos, bringing those hidden-away topics to the surface for us all to discuss openly. And I’ll throw in the odd book, film or product review and retreat testimonial too. Basically anything that will help you open your mind and live authentically.
Do you release new content regularly?
How can I make the most of the information?
The proof is in the pudding. You can watch the videos and even be inspired, but your life won’t change unless you take some action. I would advise to get involved by writing a comment below each YouTube video or blog post. Language paves the pathway for your experiences, so by writing a comment you will start to solidify your opinion and also plant a seed of change in your mind.
What is your background?
I love the fact that we’ve left the age of the mono-career. Modern technology (particularly the internet) offers the possibility for a single person to have multiple careers in multiple industries – even at once! I’m just going with the flow of life, and it’s led me to working at ITV’s main TV studio when I was 19, completing a photography degree at 27, starting a publishing company at 30, setting up a ukulele business at 33, and running a festival at 35. I’m now 37 and it’s time for me share all the life-changing lessons I’ve learned, via The Cure for Normal blog and YouTube channel.
Who is your role model?
Cosmo Kramer (from Seinfeld) – what a legend! He doesn’t conform to social norms, isn’t afraid to come up with crazy ideas and always expresses himself fully. If a project doesn’t work out for him, he has the courage to fix it or move on to another one without any diminishment in enthusiasm. Oh, and he’s completely ridiculous!
